Pros

Latayne C. Scott was a devout Mormon for 10 years, she served as a Sunday school teacher, and participated in lady's groups, and children organizations. She received her eduction with the help of scholarships provided by LDS for Brigham Young University. "I lived Mormonism; I loved it-and I left it." ~Latayne C. Scott

Cons

One must always be aware when reading books written by an individual that sometimes personal opinion will come through, even when one is trying to write objectively. The reason I point this out is because she writes very passionately.

About The Author
Latayne C. Scott is the award-winning author of over a dozen books, published by major Christian publishers such as Zondervan, Moody, Baker, Word and others. In addition, she has published poems, radio plays, and hundreds of articles in magazines such as Today’s Christian Woman, Guideposts, Writer’s Digest, The Upper Room, Christian Research Journal, Christian Retailing, and Military Officer. A full-time writer, she also speaks at seminars, retreats, and on television and radio programs. She is the recipient of Pepperdine University’s Distinguished Christian Service Award for Creative Christian Writing, and makes her home in her native New Mexico.

My Personal Opinion
The Mormon Mirage is defiantly an interesting, and shocking book. According to Mrs. Scotts research the majority of Mormon beliefs are very different from traditional Christianity. Before writing this review I had never talked with a Mormon missionary, because of this I went to the LSD website and asked a Mormon missionary some questions. My questions were "What are your views of the Trinity?, Will faithful Mormons attain godhood after death? and does God the Father have a flesh and bone body?" the answers I was given were basically the scholarly version of what I found in Mrs. Scott's book. She encourages the reader to do their own research, and gives multiple references. Many of the references are Mormon books of scripture, such as the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

NET Bible - First Edition -Cromwell Premium Bonded Leather

About the Binding & Cover
This edition is made from smooth finished Cromwell Premium Bonded Leather, with a Premium Smythe sewn binding. The cover has a smooth leathery feel, and rich color. Bonded leather is made from tiny bits of leather reformed together with latex binders to create one sold sheet of leather. Depending on the quality bonded leather is composed of 80% to 100% leather fibers. Bonded leather doesn't last as long as Genuine Leather, but does certainly out lasts other types of covers. Smythe sewn binding is considered the highest quality binding, the pages are sewn and glued to the spine of the Bible. The benefits are a long lasting Bible that can be read and reread for years without falling apart. Books with Smythe sewn binding will stand up to more abuse than regular glued binding, and can be read on a flat surface. For these reasons many textbooks, picture books and Bibles that are designed to stand the tests of time use Smythe sewn binding. Smythe sewn book printing and binding gets its name from its inventor, an Irish-American named David McConnell Smythe (1833-1807). A pioneer of modern day bookbinding, Smythe took a bold leap forward over the centuries old methods of binding by producing the first technology and methods for sewing book pages to the spine to create a book of superior quality and appearance. Smythe-sewn Bibles are durable, but they may be heavier and less flexible than glued Bibles. That said if you want the best, then you want Smythe sewn binding. Size: 9.75 X 7.0 X 2.25

About this Translation
This information is from "Preface To The NET Bible http://www.bible.org/page.php?page_id=3537 " if you would like to learn more about this translation please refer to the above address."The NET Bible is a completely new translation of the Bible with 60,932 translators’ notes! (The translators' notes can be found online and in the printed First Edition) It was completed by more than 25 scholars – experts in the original biblical languages – who worked directly from the best currently available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. The translators’ notes make the original languages far more accessible, allowing you to look over the translator’s shoulder at the very process of translation. This level of documentation is a first for a Bible translation, making transparent the textual basis and the rationale for key renderings (including major interpretive options and alternative translations). This unparalleled level of detail helps connect people to the Bible in the original languages in a way never before possible without years of study of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. It unlocks the riches of the Bible’s truth from entirely new perspectives.

The Deutero-Canonical books/Apocrypha are not completely translated yet and are not certainly in the printed editions. Plans are underway to translate these books the translators' of the Net Bible seek to create a translation which all Christians can use regardless of denomination.

The Net Bible can be found online at http://net.bible.org/or go to http://www.bible.org for a free downloadable copy. A short video about the NET Bible Watch

My Personal Opinion
Many would assume that this edition is meant especially for those in ministry or those who know the original languages but this isn't the case. The translators' notes of the first Edition are meant to help people get a better idea of what the original languages said and of the translation process that went into the NET Bible. Personally I love the extensive translators' notes of this edition, they are very useful and interesting. Even though I can't read Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek I still find the notes fascinating and comprehensible, although I'm sure someone with knowledge of the the original languages would find this edition even more helpful. Many times I find myself using this Bible along side other study Bibles to get a better idea of what the original languages said. This edition lays flat while reading, which is very helpful when studying or while comparing translations. The Net Bible First Edition is a good choice for study because of the extensive translators' notes and the wonderful maps.I recommend the First Edition to those looking for a study Bible with extensive translators' notes.

My Personal Opinion
This Bible has clear, easy to read text, which is always nice to see in a compact edition. I would like to point out that the size of this edition is 6.75" x 4.5", as you can tell from the photo I have very small hands which makes this Bible look larger than it actually is. The features of this edition such as the Compact Concordance, Bible Answers to Life Questions, On Prayer section, and Scripture Memory Verses section makes this Bible a very useful compact edition. I recommend This edition to any one looking for a compact NET Bible.

My Personal Opinion
The cover has a very nice leathery feel and texture, I understand now why many of my friends say "When you get a Genuine leather Bible you don't want to put it down". This Bible lays flat while reading, I've found this to be very helpful when studying or while comparing different translations. The Reader's Edition would be a good choice for devotional reading or study, because of the text size and the condensed translators' notes. Personally I find the translators' notes to be very interesting and helpful, giving a deeper understanding in to the possible translations.I recommend this Bible to those looking for a copy of the NET Bible for devotional reading.

True Identity: The Bible for Women (NIV Italian Duo-Tone™, Violet/Melon Green

Description:
True Identity: The Bible for Women
is designed to be a devotional Bible for women in their 20's and 30's, with an emphasis on the issues women face during these years, such as career, dating, marriage, children, changing friendships, moving, etc. Although designed to help women in this age group, women of all ages can relate to the contents. The purpose of the True Identity Bible is to show us that our identity as women isn't what we do for a living, or in human relationships, but in being a Christian and having a relationship with God.

A quote from the publisher about the True Identity: The Bible for Women
"The Bible that helps you see yourself as God sees you. No matter what your stage in life, you’re probably facing a challenge or a change. Whatever you’re facing, you probably share your struggles with a friend. Now imagine your friend has incredible wisdom and is available anytime of the day or night! That’s what this Bible is about: becoming who you are in Christ through your relationship with him."

About the binding & cover
As demonstrated in the above slid show the True Identity Bible is flexible and lays flat while reading. The cover is made from Italian duo-tone which is a soft flexible artificial leather. Italian duo-tone is a good quality artificial leather which should prove to be close in durability to bonded leather. Artificial leather book covers such as this haven't been on the market long enough to know for sure. Italian duo-tone comes in many colors, and feels more durable then most artificial leathers. Size: 7.5 wide x 9.4 high x 2.2 deep in. | 190 wide x 239 high x deep 55 mm

What’s inside?
The text of this Bible is single column format ,with purple text and bold mint green paragraph/subject headings. The format and the layout of the features is eye catching and well designed. The paper is thin, and has a semi-transparent quality. I do not recommend using highlighters in this Bible. If you like to highlight passages I recommend crayola color pencils they work best on thin paper. The pages are edged with silver , which matches the cover & mint green ribbon marker very well. All of the notes, articles, and other features have a light conventional tone.

About this Translation.
The New International Version became one of the most popular modern translations made in the twentieth century. This translation is easy to read & understand. The NIV is a Protestant translation that was released in full in 1978. The Deuterocanonical books (Also known as the Apocrypha) are not included in this translation.

If you would like to learn more about the New International Version please go to the following sites

Preface to the New International Version (NIV) Bible

My Personal Opinion
The Cover and Text: The cool spiral designs of the cover give this Bible a very whimsical yet modern look. The purple text is easy to read, and surprisingly isn't a distraction.(From now on I'll be looking for purple letter editions.) The Features: Many of the articles are interesting and useful, but at times some articles come across as overly simplistic. This would be a good Bible for women looking for answers to every day issues. I recommend this Bible to women looking for a devotional Bible with a conversational tone.
