The New Inductive Study Bible- NASB: Published by Harvest House Publishers

Description

The New Inductive Study Bible is designed to help you gain a more intimate understanding of God and His Word. It's the only Bible available based entirely on the inductive study approach- giving you the tools for observing what Scripture says, interpreting what it means, and applying what you learn into your life.

About the Binding & Cover

This edition is made from high quality Genuine leather, with a Smythe sewn binding. The cover has a rich leathery feel, rich color and well defined grain. Bibles covered in Genuine leather are very durability and will last for many years. Genuine leather is made from the remaining layers after the top layer has been removed, at that point it has a suede surface which is then refinished to add grain and texture. Genuine leather can be refinished in many textures from fine grain to crocodile skin. This edition lays flat while you are reading because of its high quality Smythe sewn binding. Smythe sewn binding is considered the highest quality binding, the pages are sewn and glued to the spine of the Bible. The benefits are a long lasting Bible that can be read and reread for years without falling apart. Books with Smythe sewn binding will stand up to more abuse than regular glued binding, and can be read on a flat surface. For these reasons many textbooks, picture books and Bibles that are designed to stand the tests of time use Smythe sewn binding. Smythe sewn book printing and binding gets its name from its inventor, an Irish-American named David McConnell Smythe (1833-1807). A pioneer of modern day bookbinding, Smythe took a bold leap forward over the centuries old methods of binding by producing the first technology and methods for sewing book pages to the spine to create a book of superior quality and appearance. Smythe-sewn Bibles are durable, but they may be heavier and less flexible than glued Bibles. That said if you want the best, then you want Smythe sewn binding. Size: 9.5 X 6.5 X 2.25 (inches)

What’s inside?
The text of this edition is 9.5 pt, which is clear and easy to read. The layout of this Bible is single column format, black letter edition, with blank paragraph/subject headings so that you can write your own subject headings. This new edition contains many special and revised features: a 32-page guide to carrying out the steps of observation, interpretation, and application, full-color pages with step-by-step instructions and overviews for every book of the Bible, individualized instructions and overviews every book of the Bible, Wide margins for note taking, 24 pages of full-color charts historical time-lines and maps, dozens of unique study helps including a comprehensive history of Israel, cross-references, and concordance. This Bible is printed on high quality paper, because of the thinness of the paper I recommend using Sakura Pigma Micron Pens and Crayola Color Pencils for highlighting. The margins are 1 1/4"" along the outside of the pages. This edition has a burgundy ribbon marker, the pages are edged with gold which looks elegant with the burgundy cover.

About this Translation
The translation used in this edition is the Updated New American Standard Version
The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is a revision of the American Standard Version of 1901. The American Standard Version was a reversion of the King James Version. Many view the New American Standard Bible as one of the most literal translations of the 20th-century. Since its completion in 1971, the New American Standard Bible has been widely embraced by many as “the most literally accurate English translation” from the original languages. In 1995, the Lockman Foundation reissued the NASB text as the NASB Updated Edition (or more often known, the Updated NASB or NASB95). Since then, it has become known simply as the "NASB" and has supplanted the 1971 text in most current printings (although the Thompson Chain Reference Bible, the Open Bible, and the Key Word Study Bible still use the 1977 text for their NASB editions).

About the Author
Dr. Charles Caldwell Ryrie (born 1925) is a Christian writer and theologian. He graduated from Haverford College (B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M., Th.D.) and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (Ph.D.). For many years he served as professor of systematic theology and dean of doctoral studies at Dallas Theological Seminary. He is premillennial and dispensational in his theology, though irenic in his approach. He is probably most noted as the author of the Ryrie Study Bible, available in the KJV, NASB, and NIV.

My Personal Opinion
The cover of this edition feels almost like genuine leather, which is very uncommon for bonded leather editions. I am impressed with the quality of this cover, its nice to see bonded leather of such quality. The study notes and other features of the Ryrie Study Bible are interesting, and useful. Its impressive the amount of information contained in this one volume. This is one of the most indepth study Bibles, I have had the opportunity to review.

About this Translation: The Clementine Vulgate
The Vulgate is an early Fifth Century version of the Bible in Latin, translated by St.Jerome, who was commissioned by Pope Damasus I in 382. It became the definitive and officially promulgated Latin version of the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church. In the 13th century it came to be called versio vulgata, which means "common translation". After the Reformation, the Vulgate was reaffirmed in the Council of Trent as the sole, authorized Latin text of the Bible. The Clementine Vulgate of 1592 became the standard Bible text of the Roman Rite of the Roman Catholic Church until 1979. The Clementine Vulgate (Biblia Sacra Vulgatæ Editionis Sixti Quinti Pontificis Maximi iussu recognita atque edita) is the edition most familiar to Catholics who have lived prior to the liturgical reforms following Vatican II.

The Vulgate and other Translations: Before the publication of Pius XII’s Divino Afflante Spiritu, the Vulgate was the source text used for many translations of the Bible into vernacular languages. In English, the interlinear translation of the Lindisfarne Gospels as well as other Old English Bible translations, the translation of John Wycliffe, the Douay-Rheims Bible, the Confraternity Bible, and Ronald Knox’s translation were all made from the Vulgate.

The Vulgate's Influence on the English language: The Vulgate had a large influence on the development of the English language, especially in matters of religion and the Bible. Many Latin words were taken from the Vulgate into English nearly unchanged in meaning or spelling: creatio (e.g. Genesis 1:1, Heb 9:11), salvatio (e.g. Is 37:32, Eph 2:5), justificatio (e.g. Rom 4:25, Heb 9:1), testamentum (e.g. Mt 26:28), sanctificatio (1 Ptr 1:2, 1 Cor 1:30), regeneratio (Mt 19:28), and raptura (from a noun form of the verb rapiemur in 1 Thes 4:17). The word “publican” comes from the Latin publicanus (e.g., Mt 10:3), and the phrase “far be it” is a translation of the Latin expression absit (e.g., Mt 16:22 in the King James Bible). Other examples include apostolus, ecclesia, evangelium, Pascha, and angelus.

About this Translation: The Rheims New Testament

The Rheims New Testament is a translation of the New Testament from the Latin Vulgate into English, it was originally published in 1582. This translation was revised by Bishop Richard Challoner in 1749, 1750, and 1752. Most 20th century printings, and online versions of the Douay-Rheims Bible are Bishop Challoner's earlier New Testament texts of 1749 and 1750.
Although the New American Bible and the Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition are the most commonly used in English-speaking Catholic churches, Bishop Challoner's revision of the Douay-Rheims is still often the Bible of choice of English-speaking Traditionalist Catholics.

The Douay-Rheims Bible can be found online at http://www.drbo.org/

My Personal Opinion
This is a very interesting edition, I like the parallel text which would be a good study tool for someone learning Latin or for someone who likes to compare translations. The Clementine Vulgate & Rheims New Testament would make a great gift for a traditional Catholic.

If your looking for a parallel Catholic New Testament with traditional translations this edition would be a good choice. This Edition can be found at the websites below.

My Personal Opinion
The flexibility of this Bible is simply amazing, I've never held a Bible this flexible. Another aspect of this edition that I'm impressed with is the quality of the calfskin cover, not only is the cover the beautiful, its a pleasure to hold. The paper is much thicker than regular Bible paper any one who takes notes will appreciate this aspect. This edition lays flat while your reading which is something else to be appreciated. The only thing that could possibly be improved upon would be to give more writing space on the inside edge of the pages. This Bible is one of the best that I have had the opportunity to review, I'm very impressed with the quality of this edition.

The HCSB Minister's Bible is designed especially for preaching and ministering. This Bible has many features of a Minister's manual such as sections on weddings, funerals , altar calls, and other topics.
Another nice aspect of this Bible is that it lays flat while your reading.

This edition is made from high quality Genuine leather, with a sewn binding. The cover has a nice leathery feel, rich color and finely detailed grain. What’s inside?
The text of this edition is 9.5 pt which is clear and easy to read, making this Bible a good choice for public speaking. Other aspects of this Bible that Ministers will appreciate are the single column format, the paragraph/subject headings, and black letter text. Features of this edition include HCSB's Plan of Salvation, HCSB's Bullet Notes, Table of Weights and Measures, Where to Turn (Pastoral Care), 21 Essentials of Authentic Ministry, Weddings, Funerals, Giving the Invitation (Alter Calls), Commitment Counseling, Dedication Services, The Christian Year and the Church, Calendar, The Apostles and Their History, Principles of an Orderly Business Meeting, and Concordance. This Bible was printed in South Korea on quality paper. The paper itself is thin, and has a semi-transparent quality. The Wide Margin measures one inch in most places of the Old and New Testament, in the poetic books the margin is slightly larger. When writing notes in the margin its best to use a pencil instead of a ink pen, the ink will bleed through and may cause the page edges to slightly curl while reading. Personally I do not recommend using highlighters in this Bible, crayola color pencils work best on this type of paper. This edition has two ribbon markers one black, the other red, the pages are edged with gold which looks very elegant with the traditional Black cover.

About this Translation
The Holman Christian Standard Bible is an English translation of the Bible, published by Holman Bible Publishers. The first full edition was completed in March 2004. This translation is a Optimal Equivalence Translation below is more information on this translation from Wikipedia.

"Holman Bible Publishers assembled an international, interdenominational team of 100 scholars and proofreaders, all of whom were committed to biblical inerrancy.[4] The translation committee sought to strike a balance between the two prevailing philosophies of Bible translation: formal equivalence (literal, "word-for-word", etc),, and dynamic or functional equivalence ("thought-for-thought"), The translators call this balance Optimal Equivalence.According to the translators, the primary goal of optimal equivalence translations is "to convey a sense of the original text with as much clarity as possible". To that end, the ancient source texts were exhaustively scrutinized at every level (word, phrase, clause, sentence, discourse) to determine its original meaning and intention. After wards, using the best language tools available, the semantic and linguistic equivalents were translated into as readable a text as possible. "

This edition does not contain the Deuterocanonical books (Also known as the Apocrypha)
To the best of my knowledge there isn't a Catholic edition of the HCSB.

My Personal Opinion
This Bible has many aspects that I really like, one of those aspects is the text size. I find the text size to be clear and easy to read, which is always nice. The single column format of this edition makes writing notes in the margin easier. The cover of this Bible is genuine leather, and feels nice to the touch. I really like the flexibility of this Bible, and that it lays flat while reading. The only aspect of this Bible which could be improved upon would be the thickness of the paper. Even though this is quality paper its a little too thin for taking notes, unless you use a pencil. The Minister's sections are very interesting, and ministers' would find this edition very useful.
I recommend this edition to those in Ministry looking for a nice Holman Christian Standard Bible.
